Online Courses Frequently Asked Questions
In order to assist you in answering questions you might have regarding the Online Courses,
we encourage you to read the frequently asked questions and answers.
- Is there a demonstration online course I can preview prior to registering for a course?
- Yes, AMTA offers the free Demonstration Module: Populations at Risk for Meralgia Paresthetica as a demonstration course. To view this course, please click on demonstration module name in this answer. There are no continuing education hours awarded for this demonstration course.
- As a new user, what should I enter for my User Name?

AMTA Member User Name: Please use your last name immediately followed by your AMTA member ID number. For example, if your last name is 'Smith' and your ID number is 123456, your User name would be: Smith12345.
If your name is hyphenated, and your name is Smith-Jones, the User Name is: SmithJones123456.
Non-Member User Name: Please use the initial of your first name and you entire last name (no numbers are required). For example, if your last name is Roberta Smith, the User Name would be: RSmith.
If your name is hyphenated, and your name is Roberta Smith-Jones, the User Name is: RSmithJones
PLEASE NOTE: It is important that you register using only ONE User Name and only ONE Password for all of your online courses. If you log in using multiple user names and multiple passwords, you will have two or more profiles in the system. You will experience difficulty logging in and accessing your grade book information or your certificate of completion.
The user name and password IS case sensitive.

- What do I enter for my password?

Member and non-member users may select their own password.
NOTE: Please retain your password in a safe, easily accessible location and use it each time you access the Online Courses. Please use only one password as multiple passwords may influence your access to the grade book.
If you have misplaced or cannot recall your password, please email us at onlinecourses@amtamassage.org. Replies to your inquiry will be processed during regular business hours of 8:00 am–4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
- How do I change my password?

- Go to the online courses page.
- On the right side of the page under 'Already Registered?' enter your user name and password.
- On the left side of the page, click on 'Profile'.
- Enter your new password (please write down you new password in a safe, accessible location for future use).
- Hit 'modify' at the top left or bottom left side of the page.
- Click 'ok' to continue.
- Click 'exit' to leave the site or 'courses' to return to courses
- What kind of Mac or PC do I need to take an Online Course?

For Mac users: Currently this system does not support all Mac settings and browsers. If you have difficulty, first please try one of the following browsers: Mozilla Firefox version 1.5+, Netscape version 7.2+, and Internet Explorer version 5+. We do not support the Safari browser.
For All Users: If you have difficulty registering, you may have to switch to another browser such as Mozilla Firefox, Netscape or Internet Explorer. We do not support the Safari browser.
To try an online course without paying for a course, take the Demo (demonstration) course first.

- I have a Mac. Is there anything I need to know before registering for an Online Course?
- Currently this system does not support all Mac settings and browsers. The currently supported Mac operating system is Mac OS 10.x Please visit the Demonstration Module Populations at Risk for Meralgia Paresthetica course before you register. - Do the 'cookies' on my computer have to be enabled to access the online courses?
- Yes, you need to enable on your browser the 'cookies.' To do this, please access the Internet and click on the 'Tools' option on your tool bar. Pull down the drop down menu and click on 'Internet Options;' click on the 'Privacy' heading toward the top; and set it at 'Low' or 'Medium.'
- Can I earn continuing education hours?
- Yes, continuing education (CE) hours are awarded upon registration in the Online Courses and the successful completion of the examination at the end of the course. The number of CE hours are listed by each course title in the list of courses. The number of CE hours awarded per course depends on the length and depth of the article and the average time expected for a user to complete the course. Most courses provide either 2.0, 2.5, 3.0
or 3.5 continuing education hours.
- How many times may I take the course examination?
- You may take it as many times as you like and until you receive a passing score. Once you successfully complete the course examination, you can print a certificate of completion. (Please set the print setup on 'landscape' before printing the certificate).
- Is AMTA an NCBTMB Approved Provider?
- Yes, American Massage Therapy Association is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider. The AMTA NCBTMB Approved Provider number is 024237-00.
- What are the fees for an Online Course?

AMTA's Online Courses are accessible any time, any day via the AMTA web site. Thus, this professional continuing education is flexible to fit a practitioner's busy schedule.
The fee is determined by the number of continuing education hours awarded a course and also the user's AMTA membership status. Course fees for AMTA members range from $30.00 to $60.00 depending on the number of credit hours. Course fees for AMTA non-members range from $50.00 to $100.00.
We accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express as payment for the Online Courses.

- There is a charge on my credit card that shows CertiLearn. What is this?
- CertiLearn is AMTA's partner in providing the online courses. A charge on your account means that you have purchased one or more of AMTA's online courses.
- There are multiple charges on my credit card but I only took one course. What do I do?

When you submit your course registration and payment information, please WAIT 30 seconds for the system to accept your registration and payment. Please do NOT continue to click the submit button as the system thinks that you are purchasing the same course multiple times.
For refunds, please contact Certilearn Support. Please complete the form and include the date of purchase, course name, and last 4 digits of your credit card. You will receive a reply within 24 business hours, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM ET, Monday–Friday.
- I am already enrolled but want to take more courses. How do I do that?

To register for more courses, please do the following:
- Go to the Online Course page.
- On the left hand side of that page, click on 'Courses.'
- Select your new course from either the member area or the non-member area, depending on your current status with AMTA.
- Put a check mark in the column titled 'Enrollment' and then click on 'Enroll Now' on the top right or bottom right of the screen.
- Click on 'Confirm.'
- Enter your User name and Password as you have used for your previous course(s).
- Click 'Log on.'
- Enter your 'Payment Information' and click 'Finish.'
- Will my continuing education hours automatically be sent to my AMTA member transcript?
- Yes, on a monthly basis the continuing education hours are compiled and transferred to each individual member's continuing education transcript.
- Where is my AMTA continuing education transcript?
- The individual AMTA member continuing education transcript is located on the member's side of the AMTA web site. Please log in and then click on 'View your continuing education transcript.'
- I am not an AMTA member and need proof of completion of the online course. How do I obtain proof?

Once an online course user has successfully completed the examination at the conclusion of the course, there is the ability to print a certificate of completion which will identify the course and the number of hours. The certificate is proof of completion.

- What states accept Online Courses?
- The list of the state regulatory boards, their education requirements and their contact information can be found on AMTA's web site, in the Massage Information Center, at State Massage Practice Laws and Requirements.
- Does the NCBTMB accept the ethics online courses for candidates that are recertifying under Standard V of NCBTMB's Standards of Practice?
- Yes, all of the online ethics courses fulfill NCBTMB's Standard V of the Standards of Practice.
- Does the NCBTMB accept the AMTA online course certificate?
- The NCBTMB will accept the AMTA online course certificate as verification that you have successfully completed an online course, should the NCBTMB audit your continuing education hours.
- I am having problems submitting my final examination. What should I do?

Should you have difficulty submitting your final examination, please first check to see what Internet browser you are using. Please see the Mac and PC browser requirements noted in a previous FAQ.

- Where do I get my course certificate?

When you successfully complete a course and pass the final examination, you will be prompted to view and print your customized certificate. You can print it out at that time or at a later time.
Confirmation of your completion of a course and your grade can be accessed by clicking on 'Grade Book' which is on the left hand side of the page.
- How do I print the course certificate?

To print your certificate, please follow these instructions:
- If you are not on the Online Course site, please log on and go to your list of courses.
- Click on Grade Book (on the left toolbar) and click on the course for which you want the certificate.
- Click on the 'Print Certificate' link, located just above the Grade Book box.
- Choose the Landscape (horizontal) feature on your computer's Page Set Up before printing the certificate. The contents print out better in the landscape format.
- It appears that I have left the AMTA web site when I use the Online Courses. Where do I go?
- AMTA has partnered with a company name CertiLearn to deliver the online courses to massage therapy practitioners and students. From the AMTA web site, a user goes to the CertiLearn training site.
- Are all of the Online Course articles published in mtj (Massage Therapy Journal)?
- AMTA's online courses are based on either the Business of Massage textbook or on articles written by experts in the massage therapy industry. The courses that were based on the textbook were not published in mtj (Massage Therapy Journal). View a list of the courses that had corresponding articles published in mtj. Articles that have been published in mtj can be accessed and downloaded for reading and review at any time.
- The user profile page contains fields for 'POP User Name', for 'POP Mail Server', and for 'POP Password'. What are these for?
- The POP user name, mail server, and password fields are for those who have POP yahoo accounts. It provides the yahoo user with notification capabilities. You do NOT need a POP yahoo account to participate in the online courses. Please leave these fields blank if you do not have a yahoo account or do not want to use it.
- I would like to suggest additional topics or speakers for future Online Courses. Where do I send my suggestions?
- AMTA invites any online course user to recommend additional topics or speakers for future consideration. Please send your comments to onlinecourses@amtamassage.org.
- I have a question that isn't addressed in the FAQs. Who do I contact?
- Should you have a question or difficulty accessing the system, please contact Certilearn Support. You will receive a reply within 24 business hours, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM ET, Monday–Friday.
