Writer Guidelines

The MTJ mission

Massage Therapy Journal (MTJ) keeps therapists in touch with information resources that help them grow professionally and personally.

All published articles in MTJ must support this mission and should work to advance the profession by enhancing the knowledge of massage therapists.

How to Submit

  1. A query letter outlining your idea and why it is important to MTJ readers is preferable. We also will review full-length submissions. 
  2. Potential articles must meet the following criteria:
    • Must be an original contribution to, or report in, the field of massage therapy. It must use objective evaluation criteria. It must not have been published in another massage publication. Articles are subject to editorial and peer review.
    • Articles should be no more than 2,000 to 2,500 words.
    • Supplements to support the text are encouraged: sidebars, charts, tables, photographs, etc.
    • May mention in passing, but must not promote, proprietary firms, products or services.
  3. Articles should be submitted by e-mail as a Microsoft Word or rich text format document to mtj@amtamassage.org.  If including artwork, photographs must be jpegs, tiffs or eps files, and high-resolutionat least 300 dpi and 5 inches wide. If using a digital camera, make sure the image size is set to largest image possible and the highest resolution. We do accept prints and/or film (these can be returned if requested). Where appropriate, accompany photos with a signed model's release form.
  4. Please include your name, address and the best way to contact you.

Additional Information

MTJ is published quarterly by the American Massage Therapy Association with a circulation of about 65,000. Please allow for a 6-12 month interval for articles to be published. If article is chosen to be reviewed, you will be contacted.
