(Evanston, IL) – The American Massage Therapy Association® (AMTA®) announces the results of its 2006 national election, conducted via mail among its Professional members. M.K. Brennan of North Carolina was elected
President-Elect and will serve in that position from March 1, 2007 through February 29, 2008 when she will assume the position of national president. Kathleen Miller-Read of Washington was elected as a Vice President and will serve a two-year term beginning March 1, 2007.
Because M.K. Brennan’s term as a Vice President expires February 29, 2008, AMTA will proceed with its normal process to fill that vacant Vice President position.
Three people were elected as Members-at-Large on the AMTA National Board of Directors. They will serve two-year terms beginning this March:
Re-elected – Judy Stahl Boyer (AZ)
Elected – Nathan Nordstrom (OR), Julie Wineman (MI)
Garnet Adair (AZ), Shirley A. Cooper (CT), Mark W. Dixon (CA) and Maureen P. Hoock (MO) were elected to the 2007 Commission on
Candidacy and will coordinate the candidate search for the 2007 election.
A total of 4658 valid ballots were received for the officer and national board election – 10.7% of Professional members- a percentage similar to the number of members who vote in other professional association elections. Photos of those elected to the National Board of Directors are available on the AMTA Web site at www.amtamassage.org/about/2007_elections.html.
The American Massage Therapy Association is a non-profit, professional association with more than 55,000 members. The association is directed by volunteer leadership chosen through its national election and fosters ongoing, direct member-involvement through its 51 chapters.
