(Evanston, IL – May 7, 2003) – The American Massage Therapy
Association (AMTA) and the producer of the special training video for
AMTA’s Massage Emergency Response Team (MERT) responders is a finalist for
the prestigious 2003 Telly Award. The video was produced by Tom Smith
Productions in 2002 to help train AMTA Professional category members who
volunteer to become part of chapter MERT efforts.
Announced in May, finalists are recognized by film and video producers for
the high quality of their productions. Entries for the award don’t compete
against each other, but are recognized for how well they meet established
standards. About 15% of entrants nationwide are recognized as finalists.
Last year’s honorees included A&E, Discovery Channel, Walt Disney Studios,
DreamWorks, and Animal Planet.
AMTA is delighted that its efforts to help members be MERT responders have
attracted attention for the quality of the production.
AMTA MERT is a program of the American Massage Therapy Association comprised
of leadership at the national and chapter levels. AMTA MERT prepares and
manages volunteer massage therapists for professional deployment to disaster
sites to perform massage on rescue and recovery workers, at the request of
local and national emergency management organizations.
