AMTA Launches Distance Learning Courses

New Educational Opportunity Announced at AMTA National Convention

Portland, OR – Today the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) announced at its national convention in Portland, Oregon that it will now offer massage therapy continuing education courses online. Professionally authored by experts in the field, these programs are accepted for continuing education credits by AMTA and most state massage therapy boards. AMTA is a National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) category A-approved provider.

AMTA’s Distance Learning Program will allow massage therapists to read specific online massage therapy professional articles and take a test for continuing education credits. The program is accessed through the AMTA Web site at www.amtamassage.org. AMTA requires its Professional-classification members to provide proof of 48 hours of continuing education every four years.

AMTA’s Distance Learning Program courses give varying amounts of CEU’s and are based on a rate of $20 per credit for members and $25 per credit for non-members. If a student does not pass the test, they can take the course again for a fee of $15.

The first two courses offered are Traditional Kinesiology: The Dynamics of Human Movement, by Tim Agnew and Hospice Palliative Massage, by Suzanne DeWees. Additional courses will be added throughout the year.

The American Massage Therapy Association is the oldest and largest association representing massage therapy. With over 46,000 members in 30 countries, it has a Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, and an active law and legislation program. The association promotes the development and advancement of the art, science and practice of massage therapy in a caring, professional and ethical manner, and the association supports massage research through the AMTA Foundation.
