-Description historical development of therapeutic massage and significant contributors to field, distinguishing charactoristics of various types of bodywork systems, physiological and psycholoical effects of massage, effects of massage on circulatory, muscular, nervous and integumentary systems, main contraindications for massage, relationship between massage and the wellness model, healing process of the body in terms of inflammation and tissue repair, physiological and psychological affects of stress and pain and the role of massage therapy in the management of stress and pain, Legal requirements for massage practice in AZ.

-Description phenomenon of pain perception, distinguish, differentiate, and modify application of massage techniques/protocols to address special populations and musculoskeletal dysfunction / injury, neuro-musculoskeletal and chronic pain pathology and therapeutic interventions, functional assessment, process of referral to various healthcare professionals, identify and appropriately support varying patient response to massage, evaluate effectiveness of therapeutic massage intervention of the patient/client.
