AMTA Proudly Supports the 2nd Annual Black Massage Therapist Conference as the Gold Sponsor
The 2nd Annual Black Massage Therapist Conference (BMTC) took place Oct. 8-9, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a focus on “Building Relationships.” The conference provided a platform for Black massage therapists to network, exchange ideas, expand their knowledge through education sessions, and elevate their practices. For the second consecutive year, AMTA demonstrated our continued commitment to this important event as its top-tier sponsor.
BMTC aims to unite business leaders and massage professionals, offering opportunities to share insights, experiences, and strategies for success. This year’s conference featured BMTC founder Davonna Willis, keynote speaker Benny Vaughn, renowned sports massage therapist, and AMTA National President-Elect Cindy Farrar. Throughout the two-day event, attendees participated in classes, visited vendor tables, and connected with peers. The conference included a celebratory dinner and dancing, and an awards ceremony.
AMTA Leaders Reflect on BMTC
AMTA President-Elect, Cindy Farrar reflected on the conference, saying “What I found most encouraging is witnessing the growth of the BMTC from its inaugural year, with both conference offerings and attendance doubling. Also uplifting was to experience the heightened overall palpable ‘spirit’ of the event. It was evident that the attendees embraced the ‘Building relationships’ theme. Despite the full schedule, time was taken to create meaningful moments through intentional connecting. It was particularly memorable being able to participate in these moments. Whether it was in sharing AMTA’s commitment to its core values and words of inspiration on the main stage, engaging with attendees at the AMTA vendor table, or joining in an unexpected 'game' of Vibes and Vices with fellow Black massage therapists in the hotel lounge. These connections have left lasting impressions. This manifestation of honoring the community and the freedom to be our authentic selves is what makes the BMTC special and necessary.”
“Seeing Black massage therapists from the U.S. and Canada come together to support one another, both as minorities in general society and in the massage therapy profession, is truly inspiring,” said Stefanie Jones, AMTA Director of Member Experience. “It was even more exciting to witness the enthusiasm over AMTA’s next president being a Black woman.”
“I’m proud to say that AMTA was a gold tier sponsor for this event, which illustrates our commitment to supporting the growth of underrepresented groups in the massage therapy profession. Thanks to Davonna Willis and her team for hosting a great event. Thanks to Benny Vaughn for an uplifting keynote address. Special thanks to AMTA President-Elect Cindy Farrar for (once again) representing AMTA on the stage, while providing inspiration to the newer therapists in the audience,” said Derrick Carter, AMTA Director of Finance.
The Future of the BMTC
Looking ahead, the 2025 BMTC is scheduled for Oct. 7-8 in Charlotte. As BMTC continues to grow, the shared purpose cultivated at the event will inspire Black massage therapists to thrive in their careers, create lasting connections, and contribute to the broader massage therapy profession. AMTA is proud to support this event and looks forward to what the future holds for BMTC.
