AMTA Proudly Sponsors and Participates in Healwell's Conference

AMTA had the privilege of being the gold sponsor and an active participant in Healwell's Homecoming Conference, held on September 20-21 in Arlington, VA. This event brought together leaders from across the massage profession to discuss key challenges and explore new opportunities for growth and development for massage therapists.

Finding Ways to Better Support Massage Therapists

Throughout the conference, AMTA collaborated with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, Massage Therapy Foundation, Society for Oncology Massage, and Healwell to find ways to better support massage therapists while advancing the profession. AMTA leadership engaged in lively discussions on vital topics, such as foundational and continuing education, alternative business models for massage therapy, and the future of research in the profession.

Highlights from the Conference

One of the conference highlights included the keynote address by Healwell’s Executive Director, Cal Cates, who inspired attendees to push the boundaries of the profession and strive for a better future for massage therapists. Another impactful session was the "Ethics of Solidarity," which focused on exploring implicit bias and shifting from cultural competency to cultural humility. This session offered practical communication and perspective-taking skills to help deliver equitable care to members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The event also included time for fun and connection, with a Homecoming Dance Party that closed out the weekend! Stay tuned as AMTA continues to engage in important conversations and events that elevate and strengthen the massage therapy profession.
