Proposed Legislation May Affect Taxes on Massage Therapy in Louisiana
In October 2024, the Louisiana State legislature introduced HB9, a proposal that could change laws to tax certain services and may affect the massage therapy profession.
AMTA recognizes that the proposal language is unclear and does not fully consider the different settings in which professional massage therapy is provided. Given these ambiguities, we are concerned that the proposed changes could lead to confusion, misclassification, or unintended financial burdens on licensed massage therapists working in diverse settings.
AMTA is Advocating for Massage Therapists in Louisiana
Currently we are working with our lobbyists and allied industry partners to gain a better understanding of these proposed changes and the potential impact on the massage therapy profession. We aim to address these issues proactively, ensuring that any legislative action clearly and fairly distinguishes massage therapy services from other business categories. This approach will allow us to advocate effectively on your behalf and pursue the best outcome.
As we gather more information and develop our strategy, we are committed to keeping you informed at every step. Your input and involvement are important to us. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your AMTA Government Relations Team.
Together, we will work to protect our massage therapy profession and achieve the best outcome for everyone.
