AMTA Attends the Million Veteran Program Milestone Celebration

The AMTA Government Relations team attended a landmark celebration recognizing the enrollment of 1 million veterans in the Million Veteran Program (MVP), a research initiative launched by the Veterans Health Administration (VA) in 2011. The program is central to advancing personalized medicine for veterans by studying the complex interplay between genetics, lifestyle factors, and military experience.

Held in Washington, D.C., on September 23, 2024, the event gathered over 200 attendees, including veterans, VA officials, researchers, and other key stakeholders committed to improving veterans' healthcare outcomes. Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of collaboration between the VA and various medical and scientific communities to address pressing health challenges faced by veterans.

MVP is the VA’s most extensive research initiative, with veterans providing crucial insights that drive cutting-edge research. Current studies cover a wide range of topics, from the long-term impacts of traumatic brain injury (TBI) to conditions such as cancer, PTSD, opioid sensitivity, substance use disorders, and suicide prevention.

AMTA was honored to be involved in the event through our partnership with Friends of the VA (FoVA) and the National Association of Veterans Research and Education Foundations (NAVREF). AMTA remains committed to advancing research on integrative health approaches, including massage therapy, to help improve the health and well-being of our nation’s veterans.
