Ohio Passes the Interstate Massage Compact (IMpact)
Ohio has officially passed Senate Bill 56, the Interstate Massage Compact (IMpact). The bill, introduced on February 14, 2023, passed the Senate on September 13, 2023, and the House on May 22, 2024. It is now on its way to be signed by the Governor.
The purpose of the Interstate Massage Compact (IMpact) is to support the mobility of licensed massage therapists across the country and to ease the existing burdens of license portability. While AMTA supports greater mobility for massage therapists through the use of an interstate compact, we are concerned with the barriers and restrictions currently in the IMpact that could impose unnecessary hurdles and exclude many licensed massage therapists from immediately participating. View AMTA's current position on the IMpact.
AMTA remains committed to working with stakeholders across the profession and massage educators to achieve an interstate compact that benefits more massage therapists throughout the U.S.
