Vermont Introduces House Bill 472: Potentially Impacting Fees for Massage Therapists
AMTA is dedicated to supporting you and advocating for licensure and fair fees for massage therapists in Vermont. Legal recognition of massage therapy, along with clearly defined requirements, helps advance the profession while ensuring the health and safety of clients.
Vermont recently introduced House Bill 472 (H 472), a committee bill that addresses professional regulation and the fees associated with the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation (OPR). AMTA has been advocating for two key changes to the bill:
- Reducing the current fees: In 2021, the initial application fee was $75, and the biennial renewal fee was $240. Those fees have since risen to $90 for applications and a staggering $275 for renewals.
- Implementing licensure for massage therapy in place of the current registration model.
The licensure request has been denied for this legislative session but conversations remain ongoing for the future. H 472 has been referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means and will be heard in committee next week.
