More Consumers than Ever Are Turning to Massage Therapy to Address Their Health Needs

Every year, AMTA conducts a survey that is a deep dive into the experiences and perspectives of massage therapy consumers. Over the next month, we’ll be sharing insights from this year’s survey, giving you a closer look at how consumers perceive and use massage therapy.

This week, we’re highlighting big-picture trends in consumer attitudes. Massage therapy continues to shine as a cornerstone of integrative health and wellness. Backed by years of research demonstrating its effectiveness for treating various health conditions, it’s clear that consumers recognize its value.

image with pie charts depicting, •	95% of participants believe massage therapy benefits overall health and wellness. •	94% agree massage can effectively reduce pain, with 30% of respondents using massage therapy specifically for pain relief. •	On average, consumers received 2.5 massages over the past year.

These findings reinforce what we already know: the majority of consumers view massage therapy as a powerful tool to enhance wellness and alleviate pain. At AMTA, we’re committed to increasing awareness, accessibility, and credibility of massage therapy through ongoing research and advocacy efforts.
