About AMTA's Award-Winning Advocacy Campaign
Expanding Access to Massage Through Legislative Efforts
Our Advocacy Campaign on Advancing the Integration of Massage Therapy in Healthcare encompasses our collective efforts to expand access to massage for managing health conditions through legislative efforts at both the federal and state levels. We work with legislators to implement responsible policies that encourage healthcare providers to prescribe massage as a non-pharmacological therapy.
Educating Healthcare Providers, Insurance Companies and Patients on the Benefits of Massage
As part of this campaign, AMTA prioritizes collaboration with key partner organizations to educate healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients about the health benefits of massage therapy. Additionally, we advocate for Medicare Advantage and insurance companies to provide coverage for massage therapy as a non-pharmacological approach to care for health conditions in cases where it has been proven effective.
Advocating for New Massage Research and Engaging Our Members
Lastly, this advocacy campaign also highlights the importance of new massage therapy research, actively engages AMTA members in legislative and advocacy efforts, and supports health equity by increasing affordable access to massage therapy and removing economic barriers. And, as massage therapy gains more recognition as an effective treatment within integrative healthcare, this creates more opportunities for massage therapists.
AMTA Wins More Awards
AMTA also recently won a 2024 Communicator Award by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts and a 2024 Platinum Hermes Award by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals for this advocacy campaign. These prestigious honors underscore AMTA’s steadfast dedication to forging new pathways in healthcare for massage therapists!
