AMTA’s Response for a National Standard of Practice for VA Massage Therapists
AMTA recently responded to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) request for information regarding the development of a national standard of practice for VA Massage Therapists. As the largest non-profit association representing over 105,000 massage therapists nationwide, AMTA highlights the importance of establishing these standards to ensure safety, professionalism, and integrity within the massage therapy profession. Such standards provide a foundational framework for ethical interactions between practitioners and clients, promoting client welfare and safeguarding well-being.
AMTA commends the VA's ongoing efforts to integrate clinical, evidence-based massage therapy into the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Whole Health system of care. We are dedicated to supporting research on these integrative healthcare approaches, including massage therapy, to enhance the health and well-being of our nation's veterans. AMTA stands ready to assist the VA with resources to help develop comprehensive national standards for massage therapy practice within the veterans' healthcare system.
